Varnum has expanded its Grand Rapids team with the addition of attorney Kylee Nemetz, who joins the firm’s Litigation Practice Team, and professional trustee Matthew Marek, who joins the Estate Planning Practice Team.
Nemetz joins the firm with extensive clerkship experience, providing valuable perspective on judicial decision-making that benefits both the litigation team and Varnum clients.
She also has a strong background in reviewing trial records, analyzing appellate briefs, and drafting bench memoranda and judicial opinions on a variety of civil and criminal matters, applying strong research and writing skills to support the litigation process. Prior to joining Varnum, Nemetz served as a term clerk to the Honorable Richard Allen Griffin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and to the Honorable Paul L. Maloney of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
Nemetz earned her Juris Doctor, with honors, from Michigan State University College of Law and her undergraduate degree from Davenport University.
Marek is a Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) with more than 13 years of experience in high-net-worth client administration, including over five years working with ultra-high-net-worth families. His practice focuses on fiduciary administration, estate planning, and the development of multi-generational wealth plans.
He also has experience in consolidated reporting, cash flow modeling, private equity administration, and managing private foundations. Marek regularly works with clients on trust structures, governance, and long-term planning.
Varnum’s Estate Planning Practice Team is one of the largest in Michigan, advising clients on wills and trusts, business succession, charitable giving, and multi-generational wealth strategies. The team also handles estate and trust administration as well as probate matters. Marek’s addition further strengthens the group’s ability to serve clients with complex planning needs.
