Detroit Lions fans will now be able to attend select away games thanks to new nonstop flights through Delta Air Lines at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

A multi-stage project, each phase will begin after full funding is secured.

This unique event offers walkers and runners the rare opportunity to compete on an actual airport runway.

The Hartford Nationals is the largest and longest-running national sports championship event for athletes with a physical disability, visual impairment, and/or intellectual disability.

The event will raise funds and awareness for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2114.

The funding, awarded through lululemon's Centre for Social Impact, supports organizations committed to making mental wellbeing more accessible through movement-based initiatives.

Participation provides a different experience for hockey players looking for more ice time in the summer while honing their talents and testing their teamwork and adaptability skills.  

The free, eight-week initiative is designed to help participants of all fitness levels stay active.

This is the first time the outing will take place at a new location since its inception 37 years ago.

Last year’s event garnered over 300 participants and raised over $20,000.

To celebrate their efforts, participants are invited for a complimentary lunch after the cleanup.
