Low-cost, nature-based programming returns to county parks this summer

The Kent County Parks Department is continuing its partnership with Blandford Nature Center to host Nature Neighbors, a series of low-cost, nature-based programs for all ages. The events will take place in six Kent County parks this summer. Nature Neighbors offers a wide variety of educational experiences to help residents connect with the environment, each other, and the natural world around them.
“We designed the Nature Neighbors series to create meaningful outdoor experiences that are welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds, and we’re grateful for the support of private donors who helped make this program possible,” said Sammy Dine, Educator at Blandford Nature Center. “Our hope is that participants leave feeling more connected to the natural world and to one another through shared experiences in nature.”
Nature Neighbors programs for children include sensory-based nature walks, boat-building challenges, owl exploration featuring owl pellet dissections, and guided bumblebee-themed hikes using exploration backpacks. Adults can participate in beginner birdwatching hikes and introductory kayaking programs focused on paddling skills and water safety. The series also includes Art in Nature, an all-ages program that encourages participants to draw inspiration from the natural world while exploring creative techniques and materials. All activities are designed to foster curiosity, learning, and a deeper connection to the outdoors.
“Nature Neighbors demonstrates the impact of strong community partnerships,” said Ben Swayze, Kent County Parks Department Director. “By working alongside Blandford Nature Center and with the support of generous donors, we’re creating opportunities for people of all ages to learn, explore, and connect in our parks.”
