New thrift store opens in Caledonia

Mel Trotter Ministries, the largest provider of services to people experiencing hunger and homelessness in West Michigan, has opened its newest thrift store and donation center in Caledonia. Located at 9377 Cherry Valley Avenue, the store is the second new thrift store that Mel Trotter Ministries has established this year. In July, a new store opened in Hudsonville.

“One of the best ways for us to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ to our neighbors facing hunger or homelessness is to strengthen our outreach throughout West Michigan,” said Chris Palusky, CEO of Mel Trotter Ministries. “This new thrift store and donation center in Caledonia will allow us to connect with families and individuals in need as well as provide an easy drop off location for the donation of new or gently used clothing and furniture.”

The early community response to the new Caledonia store has been positive. In the last four weeks, shoppers came by to purchase hundreds of items and other residents have generously made more than 350 donation drop offs.

The retail store is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The donation center is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All proceeds generated through the store’s retail sales are used to pay for services offered by Mel Trotter Ministries, including the operation of our main shelter, our recovery programs, transitional housing and job training programs.
