Nearly 60 Independent Bank branches across Michigan closed on October 13 as employees participated in give-back projects in their local communities. The Michigan-based bank marked its 10th annual “Be the Difference Day” by announcing it has surpassed $1 million in cumulative community giving since the initiative began.

More than 700 employees took part in service projects supporting nonprofit organizations across the state.

“Be the Difference Day started with a simple idea: to show up for our communities in the same way we serve them inside our branches. People always come first, and our employees love this opportunity to work alongside neighbors and causes that matter to them,” said Brad Kessel, President and CEO of Independent Bank. “Crossing the $1 million giving mark reflects a decade of partnership with local nonprofits, schools, and service organizations. We’re honored to both volunteer and invest in the missions that uplift our communities.”

In addition to volunteering at 69 nonprofit organizations, Independent Bank employees contributed more than $90,000 in donations this year. Partners included animal rescues, public schools, faith communities, home builders, food banks, and various resource centers.
