Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan (OAM), in partnership with University of Michigan Health-West and U-M Health, broke ground on a new state-of-the-art outpatient orthopaedic center on the UM Health-West Village campus. The facility is expected to open clinical space in mid-2026 and a surgical center in fall 2027.

The project includes the renovation and expansion of an existing building at 1900 and 1980 Metro Court SW. Once complete, the center will feature eight operating rooms, two procedure rooms, orthopaedic urgent care, clinic space, occupational therapy, and 23-hour stay capability. This will significantly increase regional capacity for outpatient orthopaedic surgery as demand continues to grow.

“Our shared vision is rooted in providing patients with timely, expert orthopaedic care in a modern outpatient environment,” said Kenneth Easton, MD, President of Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan. “This partnership allows us to expand access while maintaining the high standards of quality, safety, and service our patients and referring providers expect. We’re grateful to UM Health-West and U-M Health for their collaboration and trust.”

OAM has served as the primary orthopaedic provider for UM Health-West for many years. The new facility will replace OAM’s Surgery Center at MidTowne and consolidate OAM’s outpatient surgical services in a modern environment designed around efficiency, patient comfort, and clinical excellence.

“With this collaboration, we’re giving patients the best of all worlds: local expertise, expanded surgical capacity, and seamless access to U-M Health’s specialty resources when needed,” said Ronald Grifka, MD, President of UM Health-West. “This new center will bring advanced orthopaedic care closer to home for thousands of families in West Michigan.”

The project includes the sale of 8.9 acres along Metro Court SW to an OAM-affiliated entity for $5.99 million. Renovation of the existing 30,767-square-foot building and construction of a 50,000-square-foot addition are expected to begin in 2026. First Financial Bank is providing financing for the project.
