Longtime Meijer leader to be recognized for impact and service

The Better Business Bureau® of Michigan will honor Cathy Cooper, Executive Director of the Meijer LPGA Classic, as the recipient of the 2025 BBB Trust Award. The award honors a business or nonprofit leader whose honesty, integrity, transparency, and impact make western Michigan a better place to live and do business. Cooper will be honored at the annual BBB Trust Award Celebration on June 17 at LMCU Ballpark in the new Family Fare Clubhouse.

Cooper has served on many boards in the West Michigan area, including the BBB Educational Foundation Committee. She currently serves on the Greatest Generation Celebration Committee with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Board of Directors, Conductive Learning Center Board of Directors, Michigan Heroes Museum Board of Directors and Gilda's Club Marketing Committee.

"Cathy exemplifies the very qualities the BBB Trust Award was created to honor—integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to community," said Lisa Frohnapfel, President and CEO, Better Business Bureau of Michigan. "Her decades of service through Meijer and beyond have made a lasting impact on West Michigan. We're proud to recognize her dedication to building trust and improving lives."

Cooper spent 41 years with Meijer, including 11 years as Senior Director of Community Partnership and Giving. In 2019, she received the inaugural Fred Meijer Award, the highest level of team member recognition available from the retailer. After retiring from Meijer in 2024, Cooper opted to continue her longtime role as Executive Director of Meijer LPGA Classic, which supports Simply Give, a year-round program helping local food pantries keep their shelves stocked.

"When you think about all that I've been able to do in the community, feeding people is one of the top priorities for families in need," says Cooper. "It opened my eyes to so many things in the community, and I'm really forever thankful."

In addition to Cooper, BBB will also recognize six BBB Trust Scholarship recipients from the High School class of 2025, S.A. Morgan & Co., celebrating 50 years of BBB Accreditation, and other Michigan businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries with BBB.

The BBB Trust Award is made possible by the generous support of Meijer, LMCU, Amway, Ayers Basement Systems, Centennial Securities, Fifth Third Bank, WOOD TV8, and Mercantile Bank.
