The Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association (SAAA) will host an event to celebrate National Astronomy Day on October 10 from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Hemlock Crossing Public Observatory. The free event will feature activities for all ages and experience levels, giving families and anyone curious about the sky an opportunity to explore astronomy together.
Weather permitting, activities will run from noon to midnight, beginning with solar observing and a self-guided Planet Walk from noon to 5 p.m., followed by a “Buying a Telescope” lecture from 7 to 8 p.m. Night sky observing, constellation identification, and mythological stories will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight, with park entry required before 10 p.m. Clear skies are required for telescope viewing. In case of poor weather or cloudy skies, afternoon activities will move inside the Nature Center and include the Planet Walk display, a telescope exhibit, and space-related videos, followed by the evening lecture as scheduled.
“We’re excited to give people a chance to experience the wonders of the universe,” said Frank Roldan, Observatory Director, Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association. “Fingers crossed for clear skies.”
Children who attend will receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a telescope. For more information, visit https://tinyurl.com/2z9y42cc
