Holland Home, in partnership with Ada Township, unveiled plans Tuesday for The Averden, the first-ever 60+ retirement living community in Ada. At an official announcement held near the future site at 6501 Fulton St E, local leaders, project partners, and community members gathered for the first look at renderings, amenities, and the vision for this landmark development.

The Averden, a Holland Home Life Plan Community, redefines retirement as an active, elegant, and wellness-focused lifestyle, just steps from Ada Village’s vibrant shops, restaurants, and cafes. It will offer 136 independent living homes across three distinct neighborhoods – from single-family Villas to apartment-style Flats and loft-style Enclaves – set in serene, wooded surroundings. In addition, it will offer 15 assisted living residences.

“The Averden is unlike anything Ada has seen before,” said Troy Vugteveen, President & CEO of Trillium Living. “This community reflects Holland Home’s unwavering commitment to excellence and Christ-like care. It’s about creating a refined, community-focused lifestyle for older adults who want to remain active, connected, and supported as they age. The Averden brings together the best of location, lifestyle, and lifecare in a way that truly honors both our residents and our mission.”

Community amenities will include The ARC (Averden Recreation Center) featuring indoor pickleball courts, a pool, group and personal fitness, and massage studio; The Union, a central social hub with a restaurant, pub, theater, golf simulator, art studio, and more; and a wellness center with on-site doctor’s office and a dedicated assisted living area.

Residents will benefit from Holland Home’s Lifecare Promise, providing lifelong access to its full continuum of care, including assisted living, dementia care, and skilled nursing.

“Ada has always been a place where people want to live long term and stay connected to the community,” said Tom Korth, Supervisor, Ada Township. “We’re proud to welcome The Averden as our first retirement living neighborhood, bringing a thoughtfully designed, wellness-oriented community to our township that not only supports our residents for the long term, but also provides easy access to all that Ada Village has to offer.”

The property for The Averden was gifted in 1998 to Holland Home by longtime Ada resident and builder Dan Vos, with the express intent to serve the needs of Ada’s older adults.

The $215-million project is expected to break ground in early 2027. Construction will be a joint venture between EV Construction and Dan Vos Construction, with construction of the Villas by BDR Inc. and architectural design led by Integrated Architecture.
