Five West Michigan high school seniors have been named 2025 DAR Good Citizens by the Rogue River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), with Kathryn Kober of Sparta High School selected as the chapter’s essay contest winner.
Honorees for 2025 include Isaiah Dimet of Greenville High School; Ella Kihu of Comstock Park High School; Kathryn Kober of Sparta High School; Brandon McCullough of Kent City High School; and Lila Powers of Rockford High School.
The DAR Good Citizens program, established in 1934, recognizes high school seniors who exemplify dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Each DAR Good Citizen is selected by a school administrator.
All five students participated in the DAR Good Citizens Scholarship Contest, an optional timed and proctored essay competition. Kober’s winning essay will advance for further judging at the state, divisional and national levels for scholarship awards. Essays are evaluated by a panel of three external, non-DAR judges.
“The Rogue River Chapter is Michigan’s newest DAR chapter and recently celebrated its first anniversary,” said Laura Druker, Chapter Regent. “We are thrilled to honor these outstanding students. It’s just another way we support DAR’s mission of promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism, as Americans look forward to the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026.”
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s service organization whose members trace their lineage to individuals who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. Today’s DAR includes more than 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters in the United States and abroad. To learn more, visit https://www.dar.org/.
