University appoints distinguished fellows

Bill McKendry

Cornerstone University

Cornerstone University has appointed bestselling author and radio host Eric Metaxas and nationally-recognized branding executive Bill McKendry and as Distinguished President’s Fellows for the 2025–26 academic year. As Distinguished Fellows, they will engage directly with Cornerstone students in the President’s Fellows program through lectures, workshops, and events designed to integrate professional excellence with faith-driven leadership.

Metaxas, whose nationally-syndicated Eric Metaxas Show reaches millions weekly, is a New York Times bestselling author, commentator and a contributing writer to the Wall Street Journal and the Atlantic, among other publications. He is best known for his acclaimed biographies of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, William Wilberforce and Martin Luther, which have shaped national discourse around faith and cultural responsibility, and for his “Letter to the American Church,” which was turned into a feature documentary film. Cornerstone university President Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño will make regular guest appearances on Metaxas’ podcast to discuss the role of higher education in shaping the next generation of leaders.

“Cornerstone is serious about combining academic excellence with Christian conviction,” said Metaxas. “That’s a rare and powerful combination—and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”

McKendry, a Grand Haven native and founder of BrandHaven, is known for creating and directing numerous high-profile Super Bowl commercials, including the He Gets Us campaign. He brings more than 30 years of experience in brand development and nonprofit marketing. He will serve as a Distinguished President’s Fellow in the advertising and marketing space.

“Bill McKendry’s career is a testament to the power of values-based marketing,” said Dr. Moreno-Riaño. “His presence on campus will challenge students to pursue creativity and integrity in equal measure.”

The President’s Fellows program at Cornerstone University was launched in 2015 to bring national thought leaders to the university. Fellows work closely with faculty, lead public lectures and conferences, and offer direct mentorship to students.

“Our students benefit tremendously from the wisdom and example of proven leaders like Eric Metaxas and Bill McKendry,” added Dr. Moreno-Riaño. “We are honored to welcome them into the Cornerstone community.”

Metaxas and McKendry will begin their fellowship appointments in fall 2025, with a full slate of public events, classroom appearances and special projects scheduled throughout the academic year.
