5K to benefit school nurse program

The Holland Hospital School Nurse Fun Run is back for its 13th year, inviting families to lace up their running shoes for a great cause. Since 2013, this popular 5K and 1.5-mile run/walk event has raised nearly $383,500 for the hospital's School Nurse Program, which provides vital medical support to students throughout Lakeshore communities.

"The School Nurse Fun Run is more than just a race; it's a celebration of our community's commitment to the health of our children," said Colleen Perdok, fund development coordinator, Holland Hospital. "Every dollar raised goes directly to support our incredible school nurses, who are vital to the well-being of thousands of students. We hope everyone comes out to run, walk, and show their support."

The Holland Hospital School Nurse Program serves more than 13,000 students across 29 schools, ensuring they have access to immediate medical care. Beyond treating scraped knees and administering daily medications, these dedicated registered nurses manage chronic diseases, provide referrals, and address the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students.

"School nurses are trusted health care providers who meet students' physical and emotional needs," said Hendrina Cupery, manager of Holland Hospital's School Nurse Program. "They are a bridge between home, school, and other health care providers, often being the first medical professional a student sees. The opportunity to care for our students is an honor we don't take for granted."
