Life EMS Ambulance is expanding its emergency medical services operations in Muskegon County. Beginning August 17, Life EMS will serve the City of Norton Shores, Fruitport Township, the City of Roosevelt Park, and Sullivan Township.
The expansion is being coordinated with local fire department leadership, municipal leaders, and other public safety partners to ensure continuity of emergency medical care for residents and visitors.
The move follows Life EMS’s successful transition to expanded emergency ambulance operations in Ottawa County, extending the company’s existing emergency medical services along the lakeshore and further strengthening its ‘West Operations’.
“We are honored to expand our service in Muskegon County and grateful for the confidence these communities have placed in Life EMS,” said Mark Meijer, President of Life EMS Ambulance. “Our team is committed to providing responsive, compassionate care while building strong working relationships with local fire departments, Muskegon County Central Dispatch, and community leaders.”
Life EMS ambulances will be deployed at strategic locations throughout the communities, an operating model the company uses in other service areas to position resources based on call demand and improve response efficiency. Life EMS will initially use one of the Norton Shores fire stations for ambulance storage, shift changes and other operational needs.
Emergency 911 calls will continue to be received by Muskegon County Central Dispatch. Calls requiring ambulance service will be referred to the Life EMS Central Control Center in Grand Rapids, which coordinates and dispatches Life EMS resources.
“This partnership strengthens the emergency response system serving Norton Shores and our neighboring communities,” said Tony Gutierrez, Fire Chief, Norton Shores. “Life EMS brings significant experience, strong clinical capabilities and a flexible deployment model designed to put resources where they are needed most. We look forward to working closely together to provide residents with dependable, high-quality emergency medical care.”
Life EMS brings more than 46 years of caring expertise to West Michigan communities and is the region’s largest locally owned and continuously operating paramedic ambulance service. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and is the only provider to receive the West Michigan Medical Priority Dispatch Center of Excellence designation – national benchmarks for clinical and operational excellence.
The company uses industry-leading predictive deployment software, real-time FirstWatch analytics and a continuous quality improvement model praised by the Michigan Division of EMS and Systems of Care for its transparency and proactive system improvements.
