Downtown Holland and the Holland Farmers Market are giving back to the community this holiday season through two donation drives benefiting local families. Downtown Holland will host a winter clothing drive for Holland Public Schools students Nov. 2-14, while the Holland Farmers Market will collect food donations for Community Action House Nov. 4-21.
The initiatives are a way for both organizations to thank the Holland and Zeeland communities for their continued support throughout the year.
“While we love visitors, our local community is truly the reason behind everything we do,” said Kara de Alvare, Marketing Coordinator, Downtown Holland. “Downtown Holland and the Holland Farmers Market wouldn’t be here without the continued support of our local community and our loyal customers right here in the Holland/Zeeland area, which is why we choose to celebrate the holiday season by giving back to our local community partners.”
12 Downtown Holland businesses will collect new winter clothing Nov. 2-14 for families in need at Holland Public Schools. Participating businesses include:
Apothecary Gift Shop
Big Lake Brewing
Cherry Republic
Courtyard Marriott
Estella Rose Fashion
Frances Jaye
Holland Visitors Bureau
The Bridge
The City Delicatessen
The Poppy Peach
The Seasoned Home
Valeo / Training
The most-needed items include new winter boots, waterproof gloves and snow pants, although coats and hats are also welcome. Donations are needed in sizes ranging from prekindergarten through 12th grade.
New winter boots, waterproof gloves, and snow pants are the most needed items for students, though coats and hats will also be gladly accepted. New winter clothing items in sizes ranging from Pre-K all the way through 12th grade are needed. All items collected will be donated to the Power H shop at Holland Public Schools, where families can shop for free for new household items not covered by SNAP benefits, including clothing and outerwear, toiletries, laundry detergent, and school supplies.
During the “Thanks For Giving!” food drive at the Holland Farmers Market, customers are invited to donate healthy, non-perishable food items to benefit the Food Club at Community Action House, one of the Holland Farmers Markets trusted food access partners. Donations will be collected at the Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from November 4 – 21. Among the most needed items at the Food Club are a variety of cooking oils, along with beans, brown rice, canned vegetables, whole wheat pasta, canned tuna or chicken, and low sodium soups.
Each Market day that a customer donates, they can enter their name in a drawing for a chance to win a Holland Farmers Market gift basket, along with $100 in Market Bucks gift certificates.
