Downtown hotels brew up Halloween fun

AHC Hospitality venues are conjuring up a suite of immersive Halloween experiences, from masquerades to haunted hotel tours.

The JW Marriott’s iconic Just Wicked Halloween Party returns October 31 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Guests will experience an immersive evening in the transformed International Ballroom, complete with eerie décor, DJs, live entertainment, and the highly anticipated annual costume contest. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 day of (via Eventbrite). A masquerade mask is required for entry.

VIP groups can elevate the night in the exclusive R.I.P. section, featuring private seating for eight, welcome bubbly, bottle service, late-night snacks, and valet parking for $750. Costume contest prizes include $1,000 cash + stay for Best Group Ensemble, $500 cash + stay for Hauntingly Hollywood Glam, and $200 Margaux gift card for Best Black-and-White Look.

IDC (Amway Grand Plaza’s hidden speakeasy) will host Spirits & Spells on October 31 from 8 to 11:45 p.m. Expect spooky cocktails like the “Blood Moon Margarita”, fire-lit balcony vibes, and beats by DJ Sanjay. Cover charge is $10.

Step behind the velvet curtain of one of Grand Rapids’ most storied buildings with the Ghosts of Grand Tour at Amway Grand Plaza. On October 29 & 30, guests will explore the hotel’s haunted history with a guided tour, craft cocktails, appetizers, and a special appearance by Amway historian Russ Aubil. Tickets are $60 via Eventbrite and include priority access to IDC and a $4 drink discount.

From October 18–31, more than 35 local businesses, including the AC Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott, JW Marriott, and Amway Grand Plaza, will display handcrafted scarecrows in their storefronts for the Downtown Grand Rapids Scarecrow Contest. Guests are invited to vote for their favorites online, with winners announced November 1. The event is free and open to the public.
