A new health care facility will provide close-to-home access to comprehensive specialty care to greater Zeeland community. Leaders from Holland Hospital and University of Michigan Health (U-M Health) are celebrating the groundbreaking of the new Westpark Specialty Center in Zeeland, a major milestone in the strategic alliance between the two organizations. This new, 63,000-square-foot health care center will bring together the expertise of both organizations, giving West Michigan patients world-class care close to home with enhanced services provided by Holland Hospital, along with local access to specialists from U-M Health in Ann Arbor and UM Health-West in Wyoming.

The alliance, announced in 2023, is based on shared cultures and values, and the organizations look forward to working together in mutual commitment to enhance local care through joint initiatives and clinical programs that will best serve patients. The two organizations’ partnership underscores a commitment to providing comprehensive, convenient access to high-quality, specialized health care close to home for West Michigan residents, so patients don't have to drive large distances to get care.

According to Patti VanDort, CEO of Holland Hospital, one key goal of this alliance is to provide clinical specialties to West Michigan residents that complement and expand on the services provided by Holland Hospital. “Holland Hospital has enjoyed a collaborative and positive relationship with University of Michigan Health over the years, and we are enthusiastic for the opportunity to deepen our alliance with this world-class institution to continue serving the evolving needs of our patients and the communities we serve,” she said.

An anticipated opening in 2027 will feature a variety of essential services from Holland Hospital, including clinical procedure space for specialty infusion therapy, laboratory services, a specialty pharmacy, and comprehensive radiology services, such as X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Echo.

“We are honored to be a part of Holland Hospital’s commitment to bringing expanded specialty care options to the West Michigan community,” says David C. Miller, M.D., M.P.H., CEO, Michigan Medicine and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs at the University of Michigan. “Bringing the right care to the right place at the right time – when patients need us most – is a core principle of Michigan Medicine’s statewide clinical network. Collaborations with high-quality, local health systems like Holland Hospital are the best way we bring our nationally recognized specialty programs to communities around Michigan.”

The collaboration with University of Michigan Health will give patients in the region direct access to specialized care from U-M Health providers, including physicians in a variety of subspecialties from the Ann Arbor-based academic medical center, as well as providers based at UM Health-Sparrow and UM Health-West.

The facility is expected to serve thousands of patients who previously had to travel to Grand Rapids or beyond for these services. This partnership aims to close a critical access gap for specialty care across West Michigan, saving patients valuable time and offering them a choice in the market with health care leaders they trust. Making specialties available closer to home is a key benefit. “We know this collaboration will bring more choice and local access to care that will improve patients' experience,” said VanDort.

The construction of Westpark Specialty Center is led by EV Construction and Progressive Companies.
