A new family-owned Filipino restaurant, Adobo Boy, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, April 18, with a community event featuring food, music, and cultural performances. The event takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. at 4492 Plainfield Ave NE and will include a ribbon-cutting, DJ music, traditional and modern Tinikling dance performances by GVSU FASA, and a special appearance by Ginang Philippines Michigan. Guests will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a chef’s dinner for two and a movie.

The event will feature a limited menu with smaller portions, allowing guests to sample dishes while enjoying the celebratory atmosphere.

“It started as a simple dream 20 years ago, to build a life working together through a Filipino restaurant,” Ace Marasigan, Owner, Adobo Boy. “Today, we’re living that dream as a family business. We named it after our son, our very own son, Redd, the Adobo Boy.”

Adobo Boy aims to bring both traditional and modern Filipino flavors to the Grand Rapids community while sharing the culture and story behind the cuisine. Dishes are prepared fresh in limited quantities.

The restaurant’s journey began as a small ghost kitchen in 2023, then evolved into a food truck and, ultimately, a permanent restaurant location. As one of the only Filipino restaurants in West Michigan, the family-owned business offers a rotating menu of traditional dishes and seasonal offerings, along with unique experiences such as Kamayan Feasts, a communal, hands-on dining experience.

Following the grand opening, the restaurant will offer lunch service Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring quick-service Filipino rice bowls, and dinner service from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with a full Filipino dining experience. Saturday hours will feature “Almusal,” a Filipino breakfast service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
