Holland Hospital has expanded its comprehensive Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Program, providing West Michigan patients with advanced, hospital-based treatment for chronic and complex wounds. This expansion includes the launch of state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in a newly remodeled suite.
The enhanced program is led by recently appointed Medical Director Lee Ruotsi, MD, a nationally recognized and highly respected wound care and hyperbaric medicine specialist. Dr. Ruotsi is board-certified in Wound Care and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.
“This expansion ensures our patients will receive the most advanced, evidence-based treatments available, in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy,” said Dr. Ruotsi. “The entire treatment process will be delivered by a cohesive, interdisciplinary team, trained in current best practices.”
With the introduction of HBOT in a newly remodeled, dedicated suite, local patients no longer need to travel out of town for this specialized treatment. HBOT involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized environment, dramatically increasing the amount of oxygen carried by the blood to promote healing, fight infection, and support tissue repair for certain chronic wounds.
Holland Hospital’s multidisciplinary approach ensures patients receive a seamless continuum of care. The expert team includes advanced practice providers Erin Wisniewski, NP, and Janessa Engelhard, NP, certified wound and ostomy nurses, and specialists such as Podiatrist Philip Watkins, DPM.
Patient care is coordinated across a multidisciplinary team that includes advanced practice providers, certified wound and ostomy nurses, and physicians specializing in wound healing, hyperbaric medicine, podiatry, infectious disease, plastic surgery, and peripheral vascular cardiology.
The newly expanded Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine service was made possible by a generous donation from Priscilla Becker. “In loving memory of my husband, Raymond C. Becker, this new facility will benefit local patients for many years to come,” said Priscilla.
