The Diatribe Inc. has officially opened The Emory Arts & Culture Hub, a community-centered space dedicated to uplifting youth voices, fostering creativity, and strengthening cultural connections in Grand Rapids’ Burton Heights neighborhood. The Emory Arts & Culture Hub is located at 2040 Division Ave S.

The sold-out grand opening celebration, held on April 30, featured an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, student poet performances, staff presentations, and a special performance by local artist Gleason. Community members, artists, and supporters gathered to mark the opening of a space designed to center arts, culture, and opportunity.

The Emory Arts & Culture Hub represents a major investment in the creative and cultural vitality of the 49507 neighborhood. The space includes The Diatribe Inc.’s headquarters, intentionally designed for youth programming, a flexible event venue for community gatherings and performances, eight affordable residential apartments, and four retail spaces for local entrepreneurs.

Together, these elements bring art, education, affordable housing, and community space together under one roof, reflecting a commitment to inclusive development that supports both creative expression and neighborhood stability.

“We are thrilled to open the doors of The Emory and welcome the community into a space designed for creativity, connection, and opportunity,” said Javier Cervantes, Executive Director of The Diatribe Inc. “This project is a reflection of years of vision, collaboration, and belief in the power of the arts to transform lives.”

The opening of The Emory represents the culmination of long-term planning and community investment on Grand Rapids’ South Side. More than a physical space, the hub reflects The Diatribe Inc.’s ongoing commitment to placemaking that centers creativity, access, and belonging, creating room for youth, artists, and neighbors to shape the future together.
