Free prescription medication is now available to the most vulnerable members of our community thanks to a partnership between Trinity Health Grand Rapids and Dispensary of Hope, a nonprofit organization that makes medications available to individuals who are uninsured, low-income, and living with chronic illness. Located at 730 Cesar E. Chavez Ave. SW, this is the first Dispensary of Hope pharmacy partnership in Kent County and the first site in Grand Rapids.

The 2023 Kent County Community Health Needs Assessment identified access to medical care as one of its four community-identified priorities. In that assessment, 35% of individuals who were uninsured reported not seeing a doctor or not taking prescribed medication due to cost in the past 12 months.

“One of our Core Values at Trinity Health is a commitment to those experiencing poverty. We stand with and serve those community members, especially the most vulnerable,” said Matt Biersack, MD, President, Trinity Health Grand Rapids. “This partnership with Dispensary of Hope brings this value alive and shows what it looks like in action.”

To be eligible, patients must be uninsured or have health insurance that does not offer prescription coverage; at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level; and not covered under government-sponsored health insurance, such as Medicare, Medicaid, VA, etc.

Dispensary of Hope is open to anyone in the community who meets eligibility requirements, not just Trinity Health patients. Interested patients should have their provider send their prescriptions to Trinity Health Pharmacy – Roosevelt Park, where they will then attest to meeting the eligibility requirements.

There is also a site at the Trinity Health Pharmacy - North Muskegon.
