University announces 2026 January Series lineup

For nearly four decades, Calvin University’s award-winning January Series has invited audiences to deepen their curiosity and participate in lifelong learning. Each January, the series draws thousands of attendees on campus and around the world for thought-provoking conversations that inform, challenge, and inspire. The January Series returns to Calvin University from January 19–30, 2026.
This year’s lineup features a dynamic mix of ten speakers whose work spans faith, public health, storytelling, and the arts. Among them are:
David Brooks, New York Times columnist and bestselling author, offers wisdom on moral character, empathy, and rebuilding community in divided times.
Naomi Tutu, daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, human rights advocate, and international speaker, exploring justice, reconciliation, through the lens of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Vivek Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General, addressing loneliness, mental health, and the importance of human connection in an increasingly digital age.
Harry Smith, longtime NBC News correspondent and storyteller, shares stories on how less can really be more.
Wu Man, Grammy-nominated musician and leading ambassador of the Chinese pipa, sharing how music bridges cultures and creates understanding across generations.
From faith leaders and bestselling authors to journalists, innovators, and musicians, the January Series brings together inspiring voices who are shaping for a more thoughtful and connected world.
“Each year, the January Series invites us to pause and listen to some of the most compelling voices of our time,” said Michael Wildschut, director of the January Series.
The January Series is free and open to the public, with opportunities to attend in person at Calvin University or through a network of more than 50 remote sites across the U.S. and Canada. Audiences can also join online from anywhere in the world.
