New career training option available for Muskegon Area Promise students

Muskegon-area high school graduates can now use their Promise Scholarship toward career training at Ross Medical Education Center, with the Promise covering remaining tuition balances after federal and state aid is applied. The Muskegon Area Promise is a community-funded scholarship program administered by the Muskegon Area Promise Zone Authority (MAPZA). Under the partnership, graduates of eligible Muskegon-area high schools — as well as qualifying homeschool graduates — can direct their Promise Scholarship toward Ross's career training programs.
As a last-dollar scholarship, the Muskegon Area Promise applies after a student has completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and accepted all federal, state, and institutional grants for which they qualify. For eligible Ross students, the Promise covers the student's remaining tuition balance after that aid is applied.
"Medical Assisting and Dental Assisting are in high demand, yet for many students in our area, the cost of training has been the barrier standing between them and a healthcare career. This partnership with the Muskegon Area Promise removes that barrier and opens the door for more individuals to pursue a career pathway without the debt that often comes with it," said Denise Ackley, SVP of Financial Aid and Compliance at Ross Education.
Students are eligible if they graduated (2015-present) from one of the following MAISD-area high schools, or as a qualifying homeschool graduate residing within the Promise Zone: Calvary Christian Schools, Fruitport Community Schools, Holton Public Schools, Mona Shores Public Schools, Montague Area Public Schools, Muskegon Catholic Central, Muskegon Lakeshore High School & Career Center, Muskegon Public Schools, Muskegon Heights Public School Academy, North Muskegon Public Schools, Oakridge Public Schools, Orchard View Schools, Ravenna Public Schools, Reeths-Puffer Schools, Western Michigan Christian, and Whitehall District Schools.
Students must live within MAISD boundaries, complete the FAFSA annually, and accept their Promise award through MAPZA's enrollment system. There is no deadline to enroll and no expiration on an unused award until a credential is earned.
