Michigan residents age 25 and older who are interested in earning a degree or credential through the Michigan Reconnect program can receive personalized guidance during a Grand Rapids Community College Financial Aid and Michigan Reconnect Roadshow. The event will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on June 26 at the Juan R. Olivarez Student Plaza on Bostwick Avenue Northeast in Grand Rapids. It will provide one-on-one assistance to help eligible adults understand their options for free or reduced college tuition and take the next steps toward enrolling in college.

GRCC Financial Aid and Admissions staff will help attendees complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), submit applications, and answer questions.

“This event is the perfect place to start if you’ve heard of Michigan Reconnect, but don’t know what to do next,” said Chiquital Clay, associate director of Financial Aid, Student Engagement and Eligibility at GRCC. “We’ll be there to help you fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), complete applications and see if you’re eligible for free college tuition.”

Attendees will receive one-on-one assistance with FAFSA completion, Michigan Reconnect application, and GRCC application.

Attendees who want help completing the FAFSA should bring their 2024 federal tax return and social security card. A GRCC financial aid staff member will provide one-on-one assistance on a GRCC-provided laptop or computer.

Grand Rapids Community College can help students identify scholarships and tuition assistance programs that make higher education more affordable. Recent high school graduates may qualify for the Michigan Community College Guarantee, which helps cover tuition costs at community colleges across the state. Eligible Grand Rapids students may also benefit from the Grand Rapids Promise Zone Scholarship, which provides free community college tuition. In addition, the GRCC Foundation offers more than 300 scholarship opportunities and awards more than $1 million in scholarship funding each year, helping students reduce the cost of earning a degree or credential.

Registration for the event is available to receive event reminders and updates, but is not required. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall located at 143 Bostwick Ave. NE.
